School of Artificial Intelligence and Computing
The engine room of the University
This School is the intellectual core of Forward University and the source of the computational capability every other School draws upon. It builds the scientists, engineers and architects who create intelligent systems rather than merely consume them. The design principle is uncompromising: every student in this School graduates having trained, evaluated, deployed and audited a real model on real data, having broken somebody else's system in a supervised red team exercise, and having contributed to at least one open source or industry project that exists outside the University. The School is deliberately not a computer science department with a machine learning option attached. It is organised around the actual division of labour in a modern technology organisation, those who build models, those who build the data and platform substrate beneath them, those who secure them, and those who design how humans work with them.

Where intelligence meets the physical world
Software alone will not industrialise Africa. This School builds the engineers who put intelligence into machines, factories, chips, buildings and aircraft. It follows the clearest single lesson of the restructuring now under way in the world's largest higher education system: robotics, semiconductors, embodied intelligence and autonomous systems are the disciplines that convert a digital economy into a manufacturing economy. The School operates on a factory floor model in which every laboratory is also a production line, every cohort maintains the machines it learns on, and every graduate leaves with a physical portfolio of things that work. Engineering programmes here are four years, are designed with the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers and the Engineers Registration Board in view from the first draft, and carry the largest practical load in the University.

Powering and protecting the continent
Africa holds the minerals, the sunlight, the water and the carbon sinks on which the global energy transition depends, and captures a fraction of the value. This School builds the engineers and scientists who will electrify the continent, industrialise its mineral wealth responsibly, and turn climate and earth observation data into national decision advantage. It answers directly to the carbon neutrality, energy science and earth systems disciplines that leading catalogues elsewhere have now institutionalised, and it treats value addition, processing minerals rather than exporting them, measuring carbon rather than importing the measurement, as the organising commercial idea.

Intelligence applied to human life
Health is where artificial intelligence will save the most African lives soonest, and where the consequences of getting it wrong are least forgiving. This School trains a new class of clinical, engineering and scientific professionals who can build and validate diagnostic models, manufacture medicines and devices on the continent, and run precision public health at population scale. It also anticipates the biomanufacturing and brain and machine disciplines now being formally established in leading catalogues. Every clinical and regulated programme in this School is designed with its professional council from the first draft, carries the statutory practice hours in full, and treats the regulator as a design partner rather than an examiner at submission.

The largest employer, reinvented
Agriculture employs the majority of Ugandans and remains the single largest source of new jobs on the continent, yet it is taught almost everywhere as though it were a low technology sector waiting to be escaped. Forward University refuses that framing. This School builds agricultural roboticists, food process engineers, genomic breeders and agrifood data analysts who will move African agriculture from subsistence to industrial value addition and export. Every programme in the School is anchored to a working farm, a processing line or a live market, and every graduate leaves having measurably improved the yield, quality, margin or loss rate of a real enterprise.

Business rebuilt around intelligence
The generic business degree is the most oversupplied and least differentiated qualification in Africa, and it is precisely the category that other systems have been retiring at scale. Forward University does not offer a general business degree. It offers business degrees that are inseparable from artificial intelligence, financial technology, digital trade and measured commercial performance. Every programme in this School is taught against live financial data, live markets or live client engagements, and every graduate leaves with an audited record of commercial work rather than a folder of case study essays. Where School Ten builds inventors and founders of new technology ventures, this School builds the analysts, financiers, operators and assurance professionals who make enterprises run intelligently.

The rules that intelligent societies run on
Every technological revolution creates a governance vacuum, and the countries that fill it early write the rules that everyone else must follow. Uganda has no dedicated artificial intelligence legislation, and Africa has a continental strategy but a thin pipeline of people able to implement it. This School builds the lawyers, regulators, diplomats, behavioural scientists and public service designers who will govern intelligent systems in the African interest. Its distinguishing feature is technical: students here do not merely study technology policy, they read code, test models, interrogate datasets and audit systems, because a regulator who cannot open the bonnet regulates only what she is shown.

Culture as a technology industry
Other systems retired drama, animation and fine art as standalone crafts, and on the evidence they were right to do so. Forward University does not repeat that mistake in reverse by abandoning creativity. It rebuilds the creative disciplines as high value technology industries, in which African stories, languages and heritage become globally traded digital products. This is the School that keeps human imagination at the centre of an intelligent economy, and it is unsentimental about the difference between a creative career and a creative hobby: every programme here is assessed on shipped work, paying audiences or paying clients.

Teaching the teachers of the intelligent age
No country can build an intelligent economy faster than it can build the teachers who prepare people for it. Leading systems have already created dedicated artificial intelligence education majors precisely because of a shortage of qualified teaching professionals, and Uganda's science and mathematics teacher deficit is among the most consequential constraints on every other ambition in this document. This School is Forward University multiplying itself: it produces the learning engineers, teachers, workforce specialists and applied psychologists who will carry the model into schools, ministries, companies and other universities across the continent. It is also the School that holds the University to its own evidence, since every claim made in Part B about capability verification must survive the scrutiny of people trained here.

Where an idea becomes a patent, a product and a payroll
This School was added to the Forward architecture on the specific instruction of the founders, and it answers a question the other nine Schools cannot answer alone. Those Schools produce people who can build; this School produces people who can build something that did not exist before and turn it into an enterprise that employs others. Africa's employment arithmetic makes the distinction urgent: the continent adds ten to twelve million labour market entrants a year against roughly three million formal jobs created, which means the graduate who creates a job is worth several who compete for one. The School is deliberately different from the School of Digital Business, Finance and Enterprise. That School builds the analysts, financiers, operators and assurance professionals who make existing enterprises run intelligently. This School builds inventors and founders: people who prototype hardware and software, protect and licence what they create, assemble capital, and take a product from a bench to a market. Every programme is driven by technology and, in every case, by artificial intelligence, not as a subject bolted onto a business degree, but as the leverage that allows a small African team to build something a large foreign one would otherwise have built first. The School operates on a workshop and studio model. Its centre of gravity is the Forward Venture Studio and the Invention Workshop, and its unit of assessment is a working artefact with a user, not a business plan with a reader.
